Sustainable Home
The kitchen is the heart of the home, and is the part of the home that depends most equally on technical functionality and aesthetic beauty to work. Bathrooms should be a private space that feels comfortable and beautiful. Tile often is a beautiful and functional accent, and the lighting and fittings are the jewelry of the room. The clients love their 1930 home, but did not love the cultured marble, and fluorescent lights added in the 1960s.

Careful attention to detail brought in updated vintage charm. Living areas are the most expressive rooms in the house. Furniture, fabrics, lighting, flooring and accents should all come together to create the welcome and beauty that make you comfortable in your home. Having many carefully thought out details in a home add up to a space that gives an over all impression of unity and comfort.

I call them little moments of beauty.
Services
Sustainable Home is both a full-service, award-winning, residential interior design firm, and perhaps the only residential design firm on the San Francisco Peninsula with extensive expertise in green building and using healthy, sustainable materials to make every project better.
A thriving business since 2008, Sustainable Home has partnered with dozens of prominent clients including clean tech and tech CEOs, attorneys, and university professors to help them achieve their design goals and solve the most pressing challenges during the construction process.
I have been an interior designer for 14 years, and an Airbnb hostess for 7. Since becoming a hostess, I also have used Aibnb and VRBO a fair amount for travel.
One thing I have noticed is that when I am creating, or choosing a rental space, I am looking for really different things than when I am working with a client.
With a clients home, I want to create a complicated visual story.
Your room should be something that you can look at for a while, I want your eye to have something pretty to look at every place it wanders, and the room should tell the unfolding story of the family that lives there.
I truly believe that every room needs a touch that shows the hand of the #maker.
I spent 15 years designing textiles, and respect the weavers, the block printers, the screen printers, and in this case the hand embroiderers that create #fabrics.
Why settle for boring when there is such beauty out there.
Mixing patterns, layering Turkish tribal rugs, with Moroccan leather work, or Vietnamese Ikats is one of my joys.
And as a bonus, each purchase supports the economic viability of a craftsperson, somewhere in the world.
