At Gi Paoletti Design Lab we provide interior design services from inception of design through the completion of construction so that clients receive all interior architecture, interior design and decorating services in one place. Before starting Gi Paoletti Design Lab, founder Gi Paoletti spent fifteen years working with notorious architectural firms RMW and NBBJ specializing in office interiors, high-end corporate commercial and mixed-use development projects.
Gi's projects from this time can be seen all over the United States and in South Korea. She spent two years working overseas in Sydney, Australia continuing her expertise in commercial design and mixed-use development with Rice Daubney. With no challenge too big, Gi began her own business by taking on the design of an elevated helicopter port for Blackhawk helicopters, something she had no experience in, but when she heard no one else in the State had experience in this area either, she accepted the challenge.
The test flights were documented on the evening news and local newspapers.

Services
If you are interested in opening a new restaurant, you will need to include certain items in your budget.
Having enough money for construction, permits, equipment, furniture and design fees is vital.
We have seen the cost of construction and equipment rise quite substantially in the last two years.
In this post we will focus on construction costs alone, which do not include any of the other items mentioned above.
People new to building a restaurant from scratch often lump construction costs in with the costs of permits, kitchen equipment, and furniture, but in reality, those costs are all different, and must be line-itemed separately from the get-go.

ADA (American Disabilities Act) compliance is an important component in our society and since there are a lot of older buildings in San Francisco disabled access upgrades are often necessary.
Opening a business does not necessarily trigger doing the upgrades.
Doing permitted construction in the space is what triggers the upgrades and the amount of upgrades 20% -vs.
Do not assume that if you move into a space "as is" and are not doing any construction that you are exempt from meeting ADA compliance.

Incorrect Occupancy Use - There are many restaurants and bars in San Francisco running under a "B" occupancy.
That is allowed as long as the calculated occupancy comes out to below 49 people.
You cannot just say you will only allow 49 people in at a time.
If you buy an existing restaurant or bar that is currently running under a "B" occupancy but has more than 49 occupants per the occupancy calculations, you will have to file for a "Change of Use" with the Building Department.
Restaurants and bars with more than 49 occupants are classified as an "A" occupancy.

We work with contractors all the time.
The bulk of your project budget goes through the contractor so it is vitally important that you hire the right contractor for your project.
The risks involved in hiring the wrong contractor are massive.
Poor construction quality can ruin the end result and contractors who do not honor the schedule can cost you thousands of dollars in lost business revenue and in rent.
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is that you do your research before hiring a contractor.

Prior to giving you my view on the importance of giving time for the design of a project, I want to point out the incredible insights of these three respected people.
Don Norman is a design critic who produced a good, little video on how design makes people happy.
It's quite entertaining and he makes good points about how emotions dictate how people interact with design elements.
Graphic designer and writer Stefan Sagmeister did a charming video on happy design; design that makes the end user happy and being happy designing.
