TruexCullins
In 1968, William Truex Jr joined Eugene Alexander and formed a new architecture firm in the small city of Burlington, Vermont. From the very beginning, the firm's civic role established a clear focus on urban planning and the design of buildings that serve a public purpose. The new firm made an indelible mark on their hometown when, in the early 1970s, Bill Truex developed the first design concept for the Church Street Marketplace.

Inspired by the pedestrian plazas of Europe, Bill joined a small group of Burlington's civic leaders and initiated a pilot project, closing a busy downtown street to traffic to test the feasibility of a new pedestrian core for Burlington's downtown. The project was a success and led to the active planning and design of the pedestrian marketplace over the following decade.

Bill's leadership resulted in the permanent removal of vehicle traffic from Church Street and its conversion into the award-winning Church Street Marketplace. The project involved an unprecedented closing of a major vehicular artery to create pedestrian linkages throughout the downtown area.
Services
Your home should sustain you, and connect you to our natural world; whether within a neighborhood or on the edge of a wooded meadow.
This defines a good house.
At TruexCullins we combine an understanding of art, craft and technology - and bring those skills to the making of beautiful homes that feel right in their setting.
A major part of what we do is make houses that look out; that include the outdoor environment as part of the design.
We like to think of this as blurring some of the boundaries between the inside and the outside.
Our multi-family projects include apartments, condominiums, dormitories, and mixed-use developments.
TruexCullins designs these buildings to be at home with their surroundings, to make a positive contribution to the neighborhood, and to engage the street to encourage pedestrian access and increased community activity.
These multi-family projects also decrease our environmental footprint, consolidating resources and deploying them much more strategically.
Our educational work spans from K-12 schools to colleges and universities both in the United States and overseas.
We focus on creating high-performance learning environments where design is driven by the energy of people engaged in teaching, learning and social interaction.
Our goal is to create an environment that captures that spark and reflects it in a way that is at once fitting, innovative, and timeless.
What we love about educational projects is the social mission: we are passionate about the importance of education.
Whether designing a new workplace or redesigning an existing one, our goal is to create the best possible space to spend the day.
Functionality, efficiency, and sustainability are key, with comfort and creativity woven through every project.
We understand that good design should support your brand and how you do your work, and our inclusive approach is crafted to build alignment within your organization as it plans for the future.
It's important that our clients know we're interested in their well-being; there's a comfort level, a respect, and a rapport we want to establish.
TruexCullins designs places that offer refuge.
Whether it be an active urban area or town, or secluded within the natural world.
We have learned how to make places that offer the best of service while providing seclusion and oneness with our world.
These are places of discovery and relaxation: settings for great food and natural treatment.
All of our hospitality projects are one of a kind and are situated in spectacular settings.
Without exception, an essential part of the place is always incorporated into the design solution.
